Our Impact: Mobile Screening and Dialogue Projects
This project was supported by funding from the European Union.
The Team TV and radio show, has reached millions of Kenyans with messages of peace and reconciliation. Episodes dramatize key issues facing Kenyans: the need to move beyond tribalism, leadership, good governance, the roles and responsibilities of citizens and the challenging relationship between elders and youth.
In 2009, as a companion project to The Team television and radio series, SFCG and our Kenyan partner, Media Focus on Africa Foundation, launched a series of facilitated dialogues with the aim to engage interethnic youth from marginalized communities to promote social cohesion and peaceful engagement. We started in 8 areas most impacted by the post-election violence of 2007-2008.
Thanks to the outreach activities, motivated individuals who were inspired by The Team turn that inspiration into action on the ground. Youth leaders have started activities and projects aimed at rebuilding trust among their fellow Kenyans, channelling youth's energy in positive directions and sustaining healthy dialogue on issues raised in The Team and which resonate very well with their realities.
Because the participants in the discussion groups have reaped the benefits of on-going engagement, we designed the next series of dialogues around issues that impact the relationship between youth and elders.
We asked facilitators and participants to comment on how The Team project impacted their lives. Watch and listen to some of their thoughts.
