West Africa Emerging Leaders Training
In November 2008, we partnered with SFCG's Children and Youth Division, SFCG Liberia, and SFCG Sierra Leone to host training-of-trainers for facilitators from the Liberia and Sierra Leone offices. With our follow-up coaching, these facilitators put what they learned into practice, conducting leadership trainings in Liberia and Sierra Leone to inspire new paradigms of constructive leadership amongst youth and community leaders, many of whom are ex-combatants and former child soldiers. In 2010, in partnership with SFCG Sierra Leone and SFCG Liberia-including a co-facilitator from the Liberia office- we facilitated an advanced leadership development training for emerging civil society leaders in Freetown, Sierra Leone.
Women of Africa Leadership Development Program
In 2007, we launched an in-depth research project to assess the opportunities and challenges for emerging women leaders in Africa. In partnership with the Nairobi Peace Initiative - Africa, we held consultative workshops, conducted structured interviews, and offered coaching to a range of women and some men in Nairobi. In August 2008, we partnered with Femme Afrique Solidarite, based in Senegal, and the Academy for Educational Development (AED) in Washington DC to conduct similar research in Liberia and Cote d'Ivoire. In March 2009, the findings were ceremonially presented as a founding document of the Angie Brooks International Center for Women's Empowerment, Leadership Development, International Peace and Security which was inaugurated by President Ellen Johnson Surleaf in Monrovia, Liberia in an elaborate ceremony. Kenya: Dialogue-Facilitation Training for Media & Community Leaders
In 2009, following the 2008 unrest from post-election violence in Kenya, we designed and led a workshop for a nationally renowned television host who then moderated an 18-part talk show series on building common ground between tribal groups across the country. Following the moderator training, we trained diverse groups of leaders from civil society and community based organizations across the country to facilitate corresponding dialogues in their communities in conjunction with the television show. |
