Afghanistan

Despite all the challenges and uncertainties due to the fall of the republic government in mid-August 2021, Search opted to remain in Afghanistan and support the Afghan public and the civil society actors during the most difficult time.

A year on, Search for Common Ground sees an immediate need for building social cohesion and solidarity in Afghanistan. We see that polarization is increasing, resources are becoming scarcer, and international technical and financial aid is still insufficient to support civil society fully. The financial crisis is putting an additional burden on all sectors.

Nevertheless, Search for Common Ground is committed to staying in Afghanistan and supporting Afghans to build a healthy, safe, and just society for all. The organization’s focus in Afghanistan is to strengthen civil society, work with women and youth leaders, help communities resolve conflict in non-violent ways, bring together people across dividing lines, and ensure humanitarian aid is delivered in Afghanistan in a conflict-smart way.
