“At first I would see my fellow young people running away when they saw police officers.”

My name is Linstone Tumaini, aka Skill T Volcano. I am a performing artist and a beneficiary of the Inuka! Project since 2018. I was selected as a youth influencer, which gave me an opportunity to see art differently from how I had seen it before.

Youth-led restitution, which we call Maskani sessions [in which young people identify and address problems], gave me the skills and inspiration to use my music to inspire young people to be part of the peacebuilding process.

During these sessions, at first I would see my fellow young people running away when they saw police officers coming to their hangout areas. But as we continued, they stopped running, and we could hold discussions to understand the law and rights when one is arrested. This training gave me an edge and a following, which I am now connecting to music.
