We are now two years into a deadly global pandemic, with violent conflicts devastating lives from Ukraine to Yemen, and deep divisions destroying communities even in parts of the world that are considered at peace. For many, being hopeful about the future has rarely been as controversial a position as it is today.
And yet, hope endures.
It is often said that the best of humanity manifests itself in times of struggle. We — the global community of peacebuilders at Search for Common Ground — can attest to that. In the world’s most violent conflict zones, we see acts of audacity, compassion, bravery, and ingenuity: the work of heroic peacebuilders.
Their actions are transformative. Despite incredibly challenging circumstances, 2020 and 2021 rank among Search for Common Ground’s most successful years. From building trust in a life-saving coronavirus vaccine to preventing violence in communities ravaged by the Boko Haram insurgency, our initiatives have impacted the lives of millions.
