Finding common ground in our hyper-divided world can seem impossible. Some would even go as far as to say that common ground is undesirable — a synonym for compromise with an opponent whose views you find abhorrent.
But the truth is different. Searching for common ground doesn’t ask you to compromise any of your values or deeply held beliefs. It asks for the courage to look beyond the labels, build a basis of trust with your perceived enemy, and find shared problems that you can tackle together, for the benefit of all. It’s true: conflict can be a win-win.

Meet peacebuilders from around the world who manifested courage, kindness, and generosity in the pursuit of common ground and a safer, healthier, more just society.
Ambroise and Bintou are two young reporters with Search - Mali’s project Youth Talk. This initiative is empowering a new generation of young radio journalists in Mali, South Sudan, and the Central African Republic to report on local conflict issues — from violence against children to drug abuse and ethnic discrimination. Search equips these children with the skills to report on these difficult topics and create radio programs that help people find common ground.
Zuhra Bahman is the Country Director of Search - Afghanistan and in this letter, she shares her experience following the Taliban takeover, and the importance of the international community to engage rather than isolate.
At this time of bitter division, millions of Americans are calling for common ground, seeking a way to live with our differences without compromising our principles. Common Ground USA is our answer to that call — a new program to tackle conflict in the United States.
